Munich, Germany - June 28th

I woke up around 9 to find the other guys we were sharing the room had already checked out so once again we had the room to ourselves. We showered and washed our enormous beer glasses. Then we decided to rent bikes and tour the city. There are bike lanes on every street and tons of people ride around even in business suits. We rode into the pedestrian section of town and stopped at a cafĂ© to get breakfast. Munich has a famous church that was right by us so we went inside to check it out and climbed up one of its towers where we got the full view of the city. Our next stop was the English Garden. We had walked there the day before, but the park is so massive that we couldn’t see it all. Once again the park was filled with people walking, running, sunbathing, or riding bikes like us. We rode through then headed towards the Olympia tower on the other end of town. This park was also very pretty with the tower and massive soccer stadium, lots of ponds and a kind of hippie market where Geoffrey picked up some souvenirs. We ate lunch with some fresh Guinness. From there, all of us rode to an area called Maximillion where we parked our bikes and went down to the river to swim. The river was unbelievably clean and free of trash. There were more German Shore guys in their Speedos and other old guys were butt naked. We waded in, swam around, and laid out in the sun for a little while. It was time to eat dinner so we got our bikes and had to walk back to the hostel because my tire was flat. On the way back we stopped and got some dinner. Back at the hostel we had some Red Bull and Jaeger. We made friends with some guys in the lounge, played some pool and had some Desperados followed by some Absinthe. I met a guy who had just graduated UVA after going to NOVA for 2 years and getting an associate’s degree. Then I met a bunch of Scottish guys from a band who had just opened for Limp Bizkit at the park we were at earlier. Turns out they had come on while we were there and I recognized their sound. I hung out with them for a good while talking about music and places in Europe and Call of Duty and passing around some Jack. Two girls were with us who weren’t staying at our hostel but had decided ours was more fun than theirs. They were from Ireland. Late in the night I couldn’t stay awake anymore so I went to the room and passed out.
