Milan, Italy - July 1st

This morning I woke up to the last of my 5 roommates packing his stuff and leaving the room. I had it all to myself and decided to sleep an extra hour until 9 to give myself enough time to be out of the room when the staff came to clean at 10. I was able to sort out the clothing I dirtied thus far on the trip, shower and shave, and brush my teeth. I dressed in what I believed would allow me to fit in most in Italy, with a polo and khaki shorts, sporting my new pair of puma shoes. Once I was ready, I headed down to the metro station and caught the train to the Duomo stop. This cathedral is apparently the third largest in the world. By this point I have seen about all Europe has to offer when it comes to cathedrals, but I decided to go inside anyways. I was definitely bigger and more impressive than any one I had seen before. I looked at all the paintings and then sat down on a bench. While sitting there I thought of how ridiculous it was that people built such a beautiful structure in the name of a fictional character. I would see people praying and feel sorry that they felt the need to believe in some omniscient being helping them instead of having the self confidence to make it through life on their own willpower. The overall feeling I got while sitting in that cathedral was the power of people, the human species, not god, and at the same time realizing its downfall as the juvenile tendency of the necessity of a more powerful being keeping them morale the way parents use Santa Clause to either reward or punish their children’s deeds. Back outside, I walked through the square around the Duomo and looked at the expensive designer clothing. I grew tired of being alone in such a populated area so I got back on the tram and came back to the hostel’s station. After emerging from the metro, however, I decided to walk to a park located on the map I had picked up this morning in the hostel lobby. The park was practically empty which was shocking after just having come from Munich where the parks were full. I laid on a bench for a while and dozed while enjoying the surrounding peacefulness. I needed shampoo and shaving cream and with nowhere else to go really, I walked to the super market down the road and picked up some. Then I came back to the hostel where I caught up on this log which takes a really long time to get down accurately all the events that have occur so far.
