Heidelberg, Germany - June 27th

Today we woke up, had the usual breakfast, and packed up our bags. At the grocery store downstairs we bought juice and chips. Back upstairs Geoffrey checked us out then we made our way to the station. The ride from Heidelberg to Munich was pretty uneventful. In about 3 hours we arrived at Munich HBF, got off the train and walked out of the station. Geoffrey found the tourist information desk and got directions to the Easy Palace Hostel where we were staying. The hostel was several blocks from the station and it was relatively hot compared to France. We passed a steroid abuser in a tight wife beater with bleached spiked hair which inspired Wade to coin the phrase “German Shore”. At the front desk of the hostel we met the coolest German yet. This jacked dude who spent a bit of time arranging for us to all stay in the same room all three nights even though we booked the nights separately. We found our room and put our stuff down. Wade was sweaty and greasy so he showered. Then we walked a few blocks into the pedestrian center of town. You could say it was like Heidelberg in the way the shops and open cafes lined the streets only these were much wider to compensate for the mass amount of people crowding them. The people of Munich look like models and if I were rating their looks I’d give the majority of them, guys and girls, 8’s. They are fit and stylish with cool hairstyles and good fashion sense. Biggest flaw is that nearly everyone smokes cigarettes constantly. In the center of town is a massive cathedral. Much wider than and just as tall as the ones we saw in Paris. In square surrounding it we found a place to eat. Munich is famous for their white sausage, wietwurst, but the restaurant we stopped at did not serve them after 2. When we had finished eating we continued through town, through a well laid out garden with fountains all around, and into the English Garden park at the northeast part to Munich. It was no wonder why the people of the city were so in shape. The park was filled with people running, biking, throwing frisbees, kicking around a soccer ball, or just laying out. There was a fast flowing stream flowing through the park and at one area there was an artificial wave created by a dip on the river floor which was big enough that people were surfing on it. They were in wet suits and had actual surf boards and would just walk to the edge of the river and hop on the wave. After watching for a while we kept walking towards the Chinese Tower beer garden, the largest beer garden in Munich. Through the woods was a clearing with a tower of Chinese architecture though not tacky with red and gold painting but plain wood colored. Around the tower were hundreds of people sitting at picnic tables drinking beer and socializing. We sat down in the middle and went up to the concession stand where the bar tenders were constantly filling large mugs of beer. I took three of them and paid at the register the way you would at an ala carte buffet. As the night went on we downed three rounds of the massive beers while talking about the origin of life, girls, and the struggle between having fun and making the parents proud. The conversation was an eye-opening one, and I feel a stronger bond between my brothers now. Most of the people who were there when we arrived had departed before they stopped serving beer around 11. A guy came around to collect tokens the lady at the register had given us. He refunded us a Euro for each token and our mugs. The mugs were way too cool to pass up not taking, and since we had been paid already, we of course decided to walk off with one each. We made the long walk back through the park, down the road, stopping at McDonalds for fourth meal, and up to our room where we discovered people sleeping in our beds. We went to find our jacked friend at the desk who came up to sort it out. It seems the guys sleeping in mine and Wade’s beds were homeless bums who had somehow been let in our room. Our jacked friend bounced them out and got us new sheets which we put on and went to sleep.
